Shirley Ann Green, age 77, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017. She was a member of Community Baptist Church on Lee Mason Road.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Keith and Ada Caldwell; and sister, Carolyn Keith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Charles Robert Green; daughter, Vickie Cordell; sons, Mike (Amy) Green, Jeff Green, and Eric (Joyce) Green all of LaFayette;
9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Donna) Keith of Ringgold; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 4 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Brother David Thompson officiating.

Interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.

Avis Jeanette Loughridge Thomas, age 96, of LaFayette, GA passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Baptist Village, Waycross, GA after an extended illness. She was born July 10, 1921 to the late William Benjamin Loughridge and Maggie Wheeler Loughridge. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of LaFayette, where she served for many years as Treasurer as well as assisting weekly in the church library. She was a retiree of the Bank of LaFayette and supported many organizations and causes during her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Emory Thomas; brother, Benjamin Ross Loughridge; sister, Betty Genelle Roberts; and daughter, Margaret Lynn Thomas Bennett.

Survivors include:  son, William Stephen Thomas and wife Eve of Alma, GA; daughter, Avis Jeanette Thomas Rogers and husband Brad of Johns Creek, GA; son-in-Law Rowell Bennett of Rome, GA; sister Doris Charlene Potts, of Peavine, GA; sister in law Mary Alice Thomas, of LaFayette, GA; 8 grand-children: Bill Bennett and wife Lauren of Portland, ME, William Ty Thomas and wife Elyse of Lawrenceville, GA, Stephen A. Dubbberly and wife Amanda of Johns Creek, GA, Bradley E. Dubberly of Waycross, GA, Maggie E. Thomas of LaFayette, GA, Katherine Rae Thomas of Alma, GA, Andrew Thomas Rogers of Atlanta, GA, Sara Catherine Rogers of Greenville, SC; 9 great grand-children and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday October 5that 11 am at the First Baptist Church in Lafayette, GA with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating. Interment will follow in the LaFayette City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ty Thomas, Bill Bennett, Andrew Rogers, Bradley Dubberly, Stephen Dubberly and Glenn Gunnells.


Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Ellis-Walraven Sunday School Class.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the church of individual choice.

Ruby Tumlin Trammell, age 82, of LaFayette passed away Tuesday, October 03, 2017. She was passionate about helping others and taught Sunday school throughout her lifetime. Ruby was a member of Linwood Baptist Church. She began her working career with E.T. Barwick Mills and was later employed by LaFayette Health Care as a Nursing Assistant. She was a loving mother, sister, friend, and a dedicated Christian.

She was preceded in death by her parents, T.L. Tumlin and Leona Wilkerson Tumlin; and sisters, Betty June Russell and Rebecca “Becky” Mahan Buchanan.

She is survived by her son James “Tony” Trammell of LaFayette; and sisters, Susie T. Smith and Joyce T. Hall both of LaFayette.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 in the LaFayette City Cemetery with Pastor Jon Alverson officiating.

No visitation.

Richard “Eddie” Gilreath, age 68, of Chickamauga passed away Wednesday, October 04, 2017. Eddie was an avid deer hunter who loved the outdoors and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Gilreath and Josie Sweet Gilreath; sisters, Betty Parker and Sherry Neal; brothers, Tommy Gilreath, Frank Gilreath, Ravin Gilreath, and Raymond Gilreath.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Surrett Gilreath; daughters, Melissa (David) Estus and Amy (Greg) Barrett; grandchildren, Brooke (Rusty) Massey, Tripp Cheatham, Tyler Barrett, Bailey Arthur, Becca Cheatham, and Madison Barrett; great grandchildren, Kenna Massey, Eli Massey, Paizley Cheatham, Ayden Barrett, Kruz Tucker, Bella Barrett, and Bryer Cheatham; sister, Lucille O’Donald; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Will Bradley officiating.

Interment in Old Antioch Cemetery.

Eunice Violet Rooks Hicks, age 97, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, October 04, 2017. She was a member of Second Baptist Church. Violet retired from Medi-Thrift Pharmacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Jackson Hicks; infant daughter, Barbara Annette Hicks; grandson, Mark Alvin Gass; brothers, Thomas Rooks, Lloyd Rooks, and Raymond Rooks; sister, Beatrice Sowell; and son-in-law, Bob Gass.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynda (Leon) Valdes of Jacksonville, Fla., Judy Gass and Teresa Fahrubel both of LaFayette; son, Alvin (Andria) Russell Hicks; five grandsons; two granddaughters; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Virginia (Bob) Ferrell of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Lakewood Memory Gardens South.

Roland Lee Espy, age 89 of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, October 04, 2017. He enjoyed fishing, attending bluegrass festivals, and had a love for baseball. Roland leaves behind many friends and neighbors at Town Creek Apartments and the Handy Mart whom in jest referred to him as the Mayor of Town Creek Apartments.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Tina Brock and Vickie Sweeney; granddaughter, April Stacy; parents, Clifford Lee Espy and Annie McGill Espy; and brother, Bud Espy.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Brittany (Anthony) Brock Woods, Joshua Wade Williams, and Heather (Billy) Hathorne; great grandchildren, Easton Autry, Tuesday Hathorne, Danielle Hathorne, and Trista Hathorne; sister, Martha Taylor of Arlington, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Laura Ruth Strickland Wilson, age 71, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, October 04, 2017. She was a member of the LaFayette Presbyterian Church. Laura was a graduate of LaFayette High School class of 1965 and the McKenzie School of Business. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harold Wilson; daughter, Brandy (Keith) Ferris of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Abigail Ferris and Anderson Ferris; sister, Jane (Phil) Shelton of LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the LaFayette Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cathy Meyer officiating.

Interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilkes Reese Sr.; parents, Marshall Davis and Susan Hood Davis; great granddaughter, Colyn Shropshire.

MARION JEFFERSON “JEFF” BROWN, age 83, of Chickamauga passed away Friday, October 13, 2017.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a long time farmer in the Cedar Grove Community.

Jeff was preceded in death by his son, Robert Bruce Brown; sisters, Virginia Minter and Martha Fields; brother, Jim Brown; parents, Henry and Madge Blaylock Brown; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Brown.

Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Susie (Andy) Hames; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff Brown, and Ben (Renee) Brown; brothers, Walter Brown, Burton Brown, Joe Brown, and Bob Brown; grandchildren, Jeremy (Crystal) Garrett, Megan Brown, and Emily Brown; great grandchildren, Savannah Garrett, Holly Garrett, Sydney Garrett and Valerie Hames; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Debbie Hendrix Thornton, age 58, of Lakeland, Florida (formerly of LaFayette) passed away Monday, October 16, 2017. Prior to her move to Florida, she was a member of the Community Baptist Church on Lee Mason Road. Debbie had a passion for music and a love of helping others and was active in many outreach ministries throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee (David) Griffin of LaFayette; sons, Robert Thornton and Jamie Thornton both of LaFayette; grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, Jazmyn, Abigail, Georgia, Morgan, and Megan; parents, Robert “Shot” Thornton of LaFayette and Nelva Allmon of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Sherri Dampier and Vicki Foreman both of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will held 4 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Matthew Gilmore.

LEAH  HAMILTON  WALLIN, age 81, of LaFayette passed away Friday, October 20, 2017.

Leah retired from Ronile of Georgia  in 1999 with more than 20 years of service.  She was saved and baptized in 1977 at Linwood Baptist Church where she dedicated many years to her Lord’s work.  For the last 10 years she was an active member of the Faith and Worship Center in LaFayette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Wallin; and a grandson, Jason Lee Wallin.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Regina (Richard) Smith of LaFayette, Deborah (Junior) Jenkins of Soddy Daisy; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie (Lane) Wallin of Cartersville, and Tim (Annie) Wallin of LaFayette; sister, Helen (Toby) Young of Canton; grandchildren, Tyra Bartenfield, Lacy Mullis, Anthony Carrington, T.J. Wallin, Adam Hood, and Brittany Hood; 14 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.  

Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Rev. C.E. Wilkey officiating.

Archibald Robertson Fortune II (P.D.) age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in LaFayette on Monday, October 23, 2017 after fighting Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Archie was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 20, 1939 to Archibald Steele Fortune and Sarah Enloe Fortune. He graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga and attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

He was a fifth generation hosiery manufacturer, working first with his Father at the LaFayette Hosiery Mill and then as President and CEO of Fortune Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Fortune Cenzalli.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Haley Fortune; daughter, Corinne Elizabeth Fortune of Hanover, New Hampshire; son, Archibald Steele Fortune II (Jennifer) of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Spencer Barnes Bernard and Henry Fortune Bernard of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Nancy Marie Fortune of Marietta, Georgia; sisters, Eddie (Alex) Lowe of Roswell, Georgia, and Sally (Arthur) Berry of Sandy Springs, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick Cenzalli of Anderson, South Carolina, Joan and Dan Frierson of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Judy and Jerry Parichy of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Jim and Margaret Anne Haley of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt and special thanks goes to his devoted caregiver, Jean Jones, and much gratitude for the love and support of Jean, as well as that of Susie Marsh, Jay Jay Adams, and Tanya West and the wonderful and caring staff of Hearth Hospice of Georgia.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the LaFayette Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ken Waddell and Father William Williams officiating.

A reception celebrating his life will be held at the LaFayette Golf Club from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. following the service.

Interment will be in the LaFayette City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Wanda Fricks Wilbanks, age 72, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017. She worked many years for the Walker County Telephone Company and retired with Haun Petroleum Inc., in Noble as an administrative assistant. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Wilbanks; sister, Carol and husband Preston “Bud” Scott of Smyrna, GA; several nieces and a great niece, Kylie Scott; nephews, Brent (Robin) Scott of Kennesaw, GA, and Chris (Andrea) Scott of Cartersville, GA, and several other nephews; great nephews, Cason Scott, Logan Scott, and Alec Scott.

Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Smith officiating.

Interment 12 p.m. Monday, October 30 in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Brent Scott, Chris Scott, Derek Wilbanks, Stacy Meeks, Wally Meeks, and Bobby Browder.

Visitation 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church 1001 Magnolia Street, LaFayette, GA 30728.

Hyal  “H.N.”  Angland  Sr.,  age  91,  of  LaFayette  passed  away  Thursday,  October  26,  2017.  He  was  a  member  of  the  LaFayette  Optimist  Club and  Fairview  South  Baptist  Church  and  was  an  active  helper  with  the  Boy  Scouts  of  America.  H.N.  was  a  veteran  of  the  U.S.  Army.

He  was  preceded  in  death  by  his  wife,  Betty  Jo  Tutton  Angland.

He  is  survived  by  his   daughter,  Sheree  Brown  of  LaFayette;  sons,  Butch  (Edna)  Angland  and  Roger  (Donna)  Angland  both  of  LaFayette;  six  grandchildren;  seven  great  grandchildren;  one  great-great  grandchild;  brother,  Donald  (Barbara)  Angland  of  Hixson,  Tenn.; and  several  nieces  and  nephews.

Funeral  services  2  p.m.  Sunday,  October  29,  2017  in  the  Wilbanks  Memorial  Chapel  with  Pastor  Lloyd  Cantrell  officiating.

No  interment.

Family  will  receive  friends  from  6  p.m.  -  9  p.m.  Saturday  at  the  funeral  home.
