Michael Brown, age 19, of LaFayette passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

He is survived by his father, David (Tonya Prichett) Brown; mother, Melissa Brown; fiancé, Stephanie Brown; son, Brantley Brown; sisters, Sandra Brown, Mariah Brown, Miley Brown, and Traver Brown; brother, Gayland Brown; grandparents,  Wayne ( Liza) Milsaps and Gayland Brown; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Interment in the LaFayette City Cemetery.

Timothy “Tim” Eugene Wallin, age 55, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Earline Green Wallin.

He is survived by his daughter, Amber (Mike) Cleghorn; sons, Andy Wallin and Doug Wallin all of LaFayette; father, Gene Wallin of LaFayette; brothers, Rev. Mike (Dana) Wallin of Cleveland, Tenn., and Chris (Tracy) Wallin of Rock Spring; grandchildren, Ethan Wallin, Malachi Wallin, Kaylee Wallin, Daelynn Wallin, Izzabelle Wallin, Kyler Cleghorn, and Bryson Cleghorn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church 639 S. Main Street, LaFayette with Rev. W.C. Pence and Pastor Wayne Casteel officiating.

Interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.

Shirley Pauline Wiley, age 56, of LaFayette passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Ralph Ball and Ruby Fowler Ball; sister, Catherine Reese; and brothers, David Ball and Calvin Hindman.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Wiley of LaFayette; daughters, Alicia (Adam) Price of Chickamauga and Amy (David) Miller of LaFayette; sons, Robert Wiley Jr., and John Wiley of LaFayette; sisters, Sheila Gilreath of Chickamauga, Jenny Williams of Ringgold, and Frankie Lindsay of Rocky Face; brother, Mike Ball of Trion; grandchildren, Ethan, Jake, Zach, Steven, Nick, Katlyn, and Gracelyn; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Danny Hobbs officiating.

No interment.

GARY  LEE  THOMPSON, age 65, of Trion passed away Thursday,     August 31, 2017.



He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rebekah Witt; sister, Paulette Thompson.



Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth (Jonathan) Witt, of  Louisville, Ga; parents, Fred and Evelyn Weaver Thompson of Trion; sisters and brothers-in-law,  Judy (Roger) Williams of Rock Spring, Nancy (David) Bruce of LaFayette, Sandy Thompson of LaFayette, Tiny Pinkerton of LaFayette, Tracy (Brent) Riddle of Chickamauga, and Jennifer (Kris) Minton of Ft. Payne, AL.; brothers and sisters-in-law, David (JoAnn) Thompson of Trion, and Carl (Lisa) Thompson of Dalton; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

JAMES “JIM” BEATY, age 74, of Summerville passed away Friday, September 01, 2017.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He spent most of his life working as a nurse. Jim also liked to read, garden and loved painting
Preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Baty.

Survived by brothers, Alris Baty of Rochester NY, and Adrian Baty of Hankamer, TX; sisters, Ava Lee of Rock Spring and Alva Barrett of Tulsa OK; also survived by one uncle, three aunts and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside service will be held Sunday, September 3rdat 2 p.m. at the LaFayette City Cemetery.

Robustino “Tino” Renta Rivera, age 81, of LaFayette passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Harbor Lights Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores “Dee” Rivera.

He is survived by his children, Tom Arrington of LA, Eddie Rivera of Ohio,  Amie Rivera of LaFayette, Nina Rivera Murabito of KY, and Irene Garcia of LaFayette; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Ronnie Lee Marshall Sr.; and parents, Cordell Lawson and Lillian Lawson.

Steven  Van Cabe, age 65, of LaFayette, Georgia formerly of Sylva, N.C. passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017. He was a member of First Baptist Church of LaFayette. Steve co-owned the Western Sizzlin in LaFayette in the early ‘90s with his wife. He had a love for UNC basketball the North Carolina Tar Heels and his special pet friend, Hank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlin Cabe and Alice Hoyle Cabe.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Dianne Dillard Cabe of LaFayette; daughter, Jodi Cabe Johnson of LaFayette; son, Jeremy Van “Moe” (Christy) Cabe; sisters, Karen Gibson of Charleston, S.C., Susan Adams of Cary, N.C., and Carleen (Charles) Parham of Sylva, N.C.; grandchildren, Lexi, Madilyn, Logan, Nash, Dora, Jude, and Zeke; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of LaFayette with Dr. Todd Gaddis, Pastor Terry Dillard and Pastor Tim Dillard officiating. A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at East Fork Baptist Church located on East Fork Church Road in Sylva, N.C.

Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the East Fork Cemetery in Sylva, N.C.

Visitation 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in LaFayette.

Thomas Garry Kimble, Jr., 58, of Sevierville, TN, died Sept. 15, 2017, due to complications from West Nile Viral Encephalitis.

Tommy was a 1977 graduate of LaFayette, GA High School and attended the University of Georgia and Dalton State College. He worked in the construction business and previously worked for FEMA. He was an avid UGA sports fan.

He is survived by his mother, Gayle Giles Kimble of Lexington, SC; his father, Thomas Garry Kimble, Sr., and step-mother, Edna Kimble,  of Pigeon Forge, TN; brother, Robert Vinson Kimble of Sevierville; sister,  Allison (Scott) Kimble Floyd of Lexington, SC.; special friend Vicki Shields of Knoxville; two step-sisters, plus uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, Sept 17th at the LaFayette GA City Cemetery, with the Rev. David Autry and the Rev. Randall Massengill officiating.  Following the service, the family will receive friends at the LaFayette First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 301 South Main St.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tommy’s memory to the United Methodist Committee on Relief  (UMCOR) c/o the LaFayette Methodist Church or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 East Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605.

Billy Ray Lancaster, age 81, of LaFayette left this earth peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2017. Billy Ray was employed by Walker County Transit for four years. His profession was a truck driver where he was employed by Barwick Mills for 26 years, Queen Carpet for 25 years, Syntec Industries and Shaw Industries for many years.

He was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed bluegrass music, dirt track racing and pitching horseshoes. He was also a member of the Last Day Round-Up Church in LaFayette.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley Penson Lancaster; parents, C.R. and Gladys Lancaster; brother, Horace Lancaster; and sister, Helen Lancaster Bandy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Lancaster of LaFayette; son, Tommy Ray Lancaster (Jason) of LaFayette; daughter, Sherry Lancaster Shelton (Graylin) of Flat Rock Ala.; stepdaughters, Teresa Gooden and Regina Collins; and stepson, Johnny Collins Jr.; sister, Betty Lancaster Kirby of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Jessica Brooke Davis (Wesley), Adam Shelton (Amanda), Billy Ray Shelton, and Bobby Earl Shelton (Brittany); great grandchildren, Rylee and Buck Davis, Addison and Austin Shelton, and Boone Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.

 Annette Martin Huggins, age 88, of LaFayette passed away Monday, September 18, 2017.
She was employed by E.T. Barwick Mills as a payroll supervisor for over 20 years. Annette was an active member of the First Baptist Church of LaFayette and served in many capacities. These included serving as financial secretary and church hostess for over 20 years, and later serving as WMU Director for many years. Over the years she served on the Kitchen Fellowship Committee, Flower Committee, Trustee Committee, Nursery Committee,   Greeters Committee, and Budget Planning. Annette was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class. She also served as a volunteer with Hutcheson Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Waymond Cecil “Sonny” Huggins; parents, Philip and Essie Hegwood Martin; and brother, Jerry Martin.

She is survived by her son, Marty Huggins; sister, Zealiane “Zee” Martin both of LaFayette; grandchildren, Charlie (Christy) Huggins, Brad (Sarah) Huggins, and Ben Huggins; great grandchildren, Jud, Sawyer, Andrew, and Anna Kate; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 1 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the First  Baptist Church of LaFayette with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating.

Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Elsie Roach Womble, age 93, of LaFayette passed away Monday, September 18, 2017. She was a member of Chamberlain Road Full Gospel Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Odell Womble; sons, David Womble and Richard Womble; parents, James Roach and Emaline Sweet Roach; six brothers and seven sisters.

Elinor Cole Lamborn, age 86, a resident of LaFayette since 1960 passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Bridge Assisted Living in Ooltewah. She was a graduate of the Girls Preparatory School and the University of Chattanooga. Elinor was a member of the LaFayette Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of the LaFayette Woman’s Club where she served a term as president, and a member of the Brainerd Women’s Golf Association. She loved watching and feeding birds.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Bob Lamborn of Ooltewah, Tenn.; son, Rob (Amy) Lamborn of Sewanee, Tenn.; granddaughter, Caroline Lamborn; brother, James B. (Peggy) Cole Jr., of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends 12pm -1:30pm Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Fellowship Hall of the LaFayette Presbyterian Church with the service to follow at 2pm in the sanctuary with Rev. Cathy Meyer and Rev. Ken Waddell officiating.

Fletcher Lee Shipp, age 78, of LaFayette passed away Monday, September 25, 2017, after a brave fight with dementia and Parkinson’s disease. He was a member the First Church of God of LaFayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Mack Shipp and Fannie Thompson Shipp; and brothers, Hurl “Pete” Shipp and Orville Shipp.

He is survived by his loving friend of 37 years and caregiver for the last 19 months, Gussie Vanhorn of LaFayette; sister, Marcina (Charlie) Jackson of LaFayette; brothers, Maxie (Ann) Shipp of LaFayette and Paul Shipp of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Doug Douglas officiating.

Interment in LaFayette Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers are Stanley Jackson, Michael Jackson, Mark Jackson, Alex Martin, Zack Gilreath, and Manny Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers are Carl Shipp, Larry Shipp, Bill Gresham, Alvin Black, Junior     Cannon, and Brent Jackson.

Visitation 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and Friday from 10 a.m. until hour of service.

Family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and the Walker County Fire Department.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
