Archibald Robertson Fortune II (P.D.) age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in LaFayette on Monday, October 23, 2017 after fighting Alzheimer’s disease for several years.
Archie was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 20, 1939 to Archibald Steele Fortune and Sarah Enloe Fortune. He graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga and attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He was a fifth generation hosiery manufacturer, working first with his Father at the LaFayette Hosiery Mill and then as President and CEO of Fortune Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Fortune Cenzalli.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Haley Fortune; daughter, Corinne Elizabeth Fortune of Hanover, New Hampshire; son, Archibald Steele Fortune II (Jennifer) of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Spencer Barnes Bernard and Henry Fortune Bernard of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Nancy Marie Fortune of Marietta, Georgia; sisters, Eddie (Alex) Lowe of Roswell, Georgia, and Sally (Arthur) Berry of Sandy Springs, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick Cenzalli of Anderson, South Carolina, Joan and Dan Frierson of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Judy and Jerry Parichy of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Jim and Margaret Anne Haley of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the LaFayette Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ken Waddell officiating.
A reception celebrating his life will be held at the LaFayette Golf Club from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. following the service.
Interment will be in the LaFayette City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
