JOSEPH NATHANIEL CLEMENTS, age 60 of LaFayette passed away July 2, 2016.

Joseph was born October 23, 1955  to the late Elbert and Alma Christmas Clements.

Survived by brothers William Clements and wife Virginia Clements of Sale City GA, Chesley Clements and wife Nina Clements of Sale City GA, and Terry Clements and wife Joy Clements of Dacula GA; sisters Betty Minatree and husband Paul Minatree of Talking Rock GA, and Peggy DeLorme and husband Russell DeLorme of Doerun GA; 20 nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held in Sumner, GA, and will be announced at a later date.

REV.  JOHN  EDWARD  SHEPPARD,  age 81,  of  LaFayette  passed  away  Wednesday, July 13, 2016.

He  was  associate  pastor  of   Corinth  Baptist  Church.

John  was  survived  by  his  loving  wife  of  47  years,  Lura  Ann  Sheppard;  daughter  and  son-in-law,  Jennifer  (Stan)  Puckett;  sons  and  daughters-in-law,  Stephen  (Sandy)  Sheppard,  Paul  (Kim)  Sheppard,  Mark  (Cindy)  Sheppard,  and  Lyle  (Leslie)  Sheppard;  eight  grandchildren;  five  great  grandchildren;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

A  Celebration  of  life  for  John  will  be  held  on  Sunday  August 07th  at  3:00  P.M. at Corinth Baptist Church,  with  Pastor  Wayne  Wallin  officiating.

GUSSIE  MAY  PENCE,  age 86, of  LaFayette  passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016. 
She  was  a member of River of Life of LaFayette.

Preceded in death by husband, Junior Pence and great grandchild, Gabriel Mann.

Survived by daughters, Helen (Pat) Smith and Robbin Talley of LaFayette; son, Frank (Frances) Pence of Trion; several sisters and brothers; grandchildren, Dianne (Todd) Richardson, Andy (Niky) Mann, David (Joyce) Pence, and Denise (Bob) Wesson; great grandchildren, Alex and Chaz Richardson, Kylie and Leeland Mann, Skylar, Dylan, Lindsay, Jamie, Kelsie, and Bailey Pence; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel Friday, July 22, 2016 at 3pm with Pastor Rich Huff officiating.

Interment in the LaFayette Memory Gardens.

CHARLSIE  GRAVITT,  age 65, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her brother Gordon “Spud” Bowman and grandson, Justin Troy Lee Hitchcox.

Survived by her  husband  of  50  years,  William  Gravitt  of  LaFayette;  daughters, Kim (Joel) Hitchcox of Flintstone, Traciy (Jerry) Byrd of LaFayette, Kristie (Mickey) Hughes, and Heather Ramsey of LaFayette; sister, Mack (Steve) Woody of LaFayette; brother, Bob (Cathy) Jones of LaFayette; grandchildren, Matthew Hitchcox, Brittany (Tony) Vecchio and Elishia (Jake) Rice, Micah, Mason and Madison Hughes, and Austin Ramsey; four great grandsons; several nieces and nephews.

MRS.  SHIRLEY  LYVONNE  RUSSELL  MURRAY  PEARSON,  age  74  of  LaFayette  passed  away  Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

She  was  born  on  May 12, 1942 in  LaFayette.  Shirley  is  a  member  of  the  LaFayette  Church  of  Christ.  She had an arts and crafts business for 18 years.

She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  husband,  Arthur  Howard  Pearson;  parents,  Noah  Perry  Russell  and  Mabel  Stoker  Russell;  two  brothers,  Delmas  and  Buck  Russell.

Shirley  is  survived  by  her  daughter  and  son-in-law,  Tammy  (Philip)  Nance  of  Ringgold;  sons  and  daughters-in-law,  Shayne  (Ann)  Murray  and  Keith  (Bonnie)  Murray  all  of  LaFayette;  her  sister,  Ruth  Crowe;  brother  and  sister-in-law,  Kenneth  (Betty)  Russell  all  of  Kensington;  granddaughters,  Tiffany  (Aaron)  Pontier,  and  Kaylie  Murray;  great  grandson,  David  Pontier;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

MRS.  JEAN  CARMON, age 67,  of  LaFayette  passed  away  Monday,  July 25, 2016.

She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  husband,  Albert  Carmon;  daughter,  Angela  Mulkey; brother,  Dean  Ferrell;  and  parents,  Alfred  and  Cena  Roy  Ferrell.

Survived  by  her  son,  Leonard  Carmon;  sister,  Linda  Hale;  grandchildren,  Gaige  Carmon  and  Owyn  Carmon  all  of  LaFayette.

DENNIS  STEPHEN ESTUS, age 63, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016.

Preceded in death by his parents Salis Ray and Jessie Helton Estus; and sister, Wanda Reynolds.

Steve is survived by his wife, Donna Sue Estus of LaFayette; daughter, Amanda (Chris) Pippin; sons, David (Melissa) Estus and Will Estus all of LaFayette; sister, Dianne Eaton; brother, Dale (Judy) Stiles and Benny Wayne Helton all of LaFayette; grandchildren, Brook Massey, Bailey Arthur, Michael, Tyler, Brian and Adam Pippin; great grandchildren, Kenna and Eli Massey; several nieces and nephews; and Michael Bean which Steve thought of like a son.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harold Helton and Chaplain Mike Jones officiating.

Interment in LaFayette City Cemetery.

MRS.  RUTH  GRIGSBY  MCWILLIAMS,  age  89,  of  West  Armuchee  Valley  passed  away Friday,  July 29, 2016.



Ruth  was  born  September 20, 1926  in West Armuchee Valley  to  the  late R.C.  Grigsby, Jr.  and  Hattie  Pruitt  Grigsby.  She  was  a  lifelong  member  of  the  Shiloh  Baptist  Church where she served as treasuer as  well as many other roles. A graduate of West Armuchee High School, she attended business school in Chattanooga and was secretary at Gold Kist Farm Store alongside her husband who was store manager. She also workedas secretary with the Walker County School System at Armuchee Valley Elementary School for many years, helping guide many new principals and teachers who came through its front doors.  After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially with her six granddaughters, and helping on the family farm.

 

She  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  husband,  Clifford W.  McWilliams;  sister,  Helen  G.  Pope; brothers, Cecil  Grigsby,   Kylus  Grigsby, and  Robert  Grigsby.



She  is  survived  by  her  sons,  Mark  K.  McWilliams,  David  L. (Renee) McWilliams,  and  Keith  J. (Danna) McWilliams; granddaughters, Hilary (Tyler) Roden; Kendall McWilliams, Melissa (Brice) Sherfesee, Rachel McWilliams, Lydia McWilliams, and Ansley McWilliams; sister-in-law, Thelma W. Grisgby;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.



A funeral service will be held at the  Shiloh  Baptist  Church in West Armuchee Valley,  Monday, August 1 at 11:00 am  with  Pastors  Chuck  Romain  and   Terry  Burns  officiating.



Interment  will be in  the  McWilliams  Cemetery.



Pallbearers are Brice Sherfesee, Tyler Roden, Dan Brannon, Brian Hart, Matt Dooley, and Brandon Gilbreath.



Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Shiloh Baptist Church.



Family  will  receive  friends  at  the  funeral  home  Sunday,  July 31  from  6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, and Monday, August 1 at Shiloh Baptist Church from 10:00 am  until time of service.

Charles Clements Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 30, 2016.  He was 90 years old. He was born on February 19, 1926, of the late Charles Clements Sr. and Ethel Clement Clements.  He was a lifelong resident of LaFayette, Georgia, and lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of LaFayette. He served as a deacon and taught Sunday  School for many years.
Mr. Clements was a graduate of Stetson University and Cumberland School of Law.   He served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, City Judge for the City of LaFayette, and was a retired Judge of the State Court of Walker County and member of the Lookout Mountain Bar Association.  He practiced law in Walker County in excess of 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Martha Greer Clements.  Survivors include son, Charles Clements III (Chuck), son,  Patrick Robert  Clements (Donna), and daughter Betsy Clements Hannah, all of LaFayette.  Grandchildren include Taylor, Bailey, and Chade Clements; Lindsey, Abbey, Christina, and Rob Hannah. Brothers, James Clements (Huntsville, Ala), Judson Clements (Winchester, Tenn), sister, May  Juanico (Orlando, Fl) , and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, August 1 from 4pm – 8pm at Wallis-Wilbanks and Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church from 1pm until time of service.  A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, August 2 at 2 pm, at the First Baptist Church, LaFayette, with Dr. Todd Gaddis officiating.  

Interment will follow at LaFayette Cemetery.

Pallbearers are  Judge Ralph Hill, Judge C. Donald Peppers, Hill Pope III, Guy Pope, Fred Rea, and Wayne Swanson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Lookout Mountain Bar Association.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of LaFayette, or your favorite charity.

The family would like to thank  the nurses and staff at Shepard Hills Health Care and Hospice for their wonderful care of our precious daddy and Grandpaw.

He  was  born  on  May 02, 1950  in  Detroit  Michigan  to  the  late  Arlean  and  Shirley  BryantLong.

He  is  survived  by  his  daughter and son-in-law, Jenny  (Mathew)  Wojteczko  of Braselton, Ga.;  son and   daughter-in-law,  Matthew (Summer)  Long  of  Buford, Ga.;  sister,  Karen  Long  of  North  Augusta,  SC.;  bothers  and  sister-in-law,  Philip (Cindy) Long of  LaFayette  and  Jon  (Lindsay) Long of  Knoxville, TN.;  grandchildren,  Emma  and  Evan  Long,  Adam  and  Miles  Wojteczko;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

Graveside  service  at the LaFayette  City  Cemetery  Friday, August 5th at 2:00  P.M.

Family  will  receive  friends  at  the  funeral  home  Friday  from  12noon  to 1:45pm.

Arrangements  are  by  Wallis-Wilbanks  Funeral  Home,  LaFayette.
