Margery Ann Evitt King, age 89, of LaFayette passed  away  on  Tuesday, April 26, 2016 after an extended illness.  She was born November 10, 1926 to Alfred Lee Evitt and Lena Gladys Andrews Evitt.
Margery lived in LaFayette and Walker County, Georgia all of her life.  Her great-great grandparents were among the earliest settlers of Walker County, Georgia.  She revered her family history and would often repeat her late uncle, Raymond Andrews' reference to the old saying "of being from good stock."  Her parents grew up on adjoining farms on Andrews Lane.
Her dad's family later farmed in the Walnut Grove Community south of LaFayette.  She loved rides down to Walnut Grove and over to McLemore's Cove.  She shared many fond memories of growing up in LaFayette and Cedar Grove.
Margery was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother, exemplifying the best qualities in each role she embodied during her lifetime.
She was a cradle member of Lafayette First Baptist Church and was active there from childhood until her later years.
She was married 52 years to her beloved husband Jack King.  Margery thought he was her ticket out of LaFayette, but that was not God's plan.  Jack fell in love with her and the community of LaFayette, never to leave.  They were one happy team!
She is predeceased by her husband, sisters, Wilfred Parrish, Betty Rose Moore and her brother Alfred Miah Evitt.
Margery is survived by her only child, Kathy King Tatum and son-in-law Kyle Tatum; her only grandchild, Mary King Tatum-Phillips and her husband Joseph; and two sisters, Sarah Millican and Martha McGill.
Much appreciation goes to Doctor William Horton.  His medical care touches mind, body and soul.  He is a vessel for Jesus' tender loving care.  And many thanks to Life Choice Hospice for her comfort care.  Especially Nurse Michelle, CNA's Sharon and Katie.  Also, Margery's new friends Jessica (Jay Jay) Adams and her little girl, Johnae, have been another blessing from above.   They brought laughter and comfort to Margery and her family.
Grave side service will be Sunday, May 1 at 1 O'clock at the LaFayette City Cemetery, with Ken Wadell and Kathy Meyer officiating.  Reception to follow at LaFayette First Presbyterian Church.
Flowers are welcomed as well as donations to the restoration of the 1926 Lafayette Fire Truck.  Checks may be sent to the Bank of LaFayette payable to the Margery King Memorial, 1926 Fire Truck Restoration.   This is of special interest as her father was a local volunteer fireman and was the first to drive the truck.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.
