Elaine Davis Kellett, age 64, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald “Skillet” Kellett; son, Ronald Lee Kellett Jr.; daughter, Amanda Sky Kellett; parents, James Alvin Davis and L.D. Beamer Davis; brother, Richard Davis; and sister, Jewell Davis.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia “Kit” (Pilo) Gonzalez of LaFayette; grandchildren, Nikki (Charlie) Torres and Bubba Carico; great grandchildren, Mayra Torres, Bianca Torres, and Blanca Torres; sisters, Susan (Ricky) Brown of LaFayette, Brenda (Mike) Johnson of Douglasville, Ga., Donna Barfield of Gatlinburg, Tenn., and Marlene Beard of LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services.

Family will receive friends Saturday, February 17th from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steven Dexter Jumper, age 56, of LaFayette passed away Friday, February 16, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dexter Windham Jumper Jr.

He is survived by his son, Justin Jumper (Tara Cooper) of LaFayette; grandchildren, Kalynn, Kobin, Aiden, Lincoln, and Octavia; mother, Mary Love Jumper of LaFayette; sister, Kimi Crump of LaFayette; brothers, Jerran Jumper and Brian Jumper both of LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held in Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery in Booneville, Miss.

Family will receive friends Sunday, February 18 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.

Eileen Krosevic Reed, age 75, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was a member of the LaFayette First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Reed.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Sal) Mott-Cangemi of Chickamauga and Barbara (Tony) Nace of Landisburg, Pa.; sons, Michael (Carolyn) Reed of Niceville, Fla., and William “Chip” (Cindy) Reed of Rossville; 10  grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Michael A. (Ginger) Krosevic Jr., of Washington state, and David P. (Judy) Krosevic of Harrisburg, Pa.; sister-in-law, Catherine Eshenour of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the LaFayette First United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Mt. Zion Church in Landisburg, Pa., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cozy Manor 706 N. Main Street, LaFayette, GA 30728.

Claud Henry Russell, age 89, of LaFayette passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018. He was a member of the LaFayette Church of Christ for 60 years where he served as a deacon and caretaker of the church. Claud worked for E.T. Barwick Mills in LaFayette and retired from Roper Corporation. He had a love for baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Claud was a very compassionate man who loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Simmons Russell; brothers, Barney, Carl, Robert, and Marlin Russell; sisters, Helen and Catherine Russell and Betty Eicchorn.

He is survived by his daughters, Claudia (Dennis) Cagle and Connie (Todd) Rogers of LaFayette; grandchildren, Katie (David) Mitchell, Samantha Cagle, Jeremiah Rogers, Andy Rogers, Walker (Ally) Rogers, and Bianca Rogers; great grandchildren, Jason Cagle, Nick Mitchell, Ben Mitchell, and Annalise Rogers; sister, Ann Clifton of LaFayette; brothers, J.W. Russell of LaFayette and Albert Russell and Kenneth Russell both Chickamauga; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the LaFayette Church of Christ with Minister Tom Harrison officiating.

Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jeremiah Rogers, Andy Rogers, Walker Rogers, David Mitchell, Randall Cagle, and Madison Ledford.

Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Day, Jerry Day, Neal Brooks, Gary O’Bryant, Jim Rushing, Tony Brooks, and the Elders and Deacons of the church.

Steve Reynolds, age 70, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Steve was a lifelong truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Reynolds; granddaughter, Kelia Ball; brother, Blue Reynolds; and sisters, Virginia Pierce and Hattie Kiker.

He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Collins, Robin Asher, and Gina Tucker all of LaFayette; sons, Jeff Lively of Tunnel Hill and Richard Lively of Chatsworth; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Reynolds of Summerville; brother, Gene Reynolds of Chatsworth; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 4 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel.

Interment will follow in LaFayette City Cemetery.

MITCHELL, Ann Marie, better known as Jill, passed with peace and grace while surrounded by her family on February 27, 2018.  Born in May of 1937, she was 80 years old.  Jill was predeceased by her husband Ed and is dearly loved and survived by her six children, George, Edward, Forrest, Tina (Ray), Lee (Patty), and Patty.   She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren each of whom had the great pleasure of being Maw Maw’s “favorite”.
Originally from Tampa, Florida where she attended Sacred Heart Academy and The University of Tampa, she spent most of her life in her adopted hometown of LaFayette, Georgia.  She retired from North LaFayette Elementary School and she also worked for the Walker County Sheriff’s Department and The First Baptist Church.
She was a devout Christian and a parishioner of Saint Gerard Catholic Church in Fort Oglethorpe.  In her own words, she lived a blessed life.  She was a supporter of many charitable causes and was quick to give and volunteer in times of need.  She was affectionally referred to as “the sweetest woman I know” or just “sweet Jill”. 
A visitation will be held at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette, Ga on March 10thfrom 2pm to 6pm, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at 6pm at the LaFayette Housing Authority. Mass service and interment are private.

Essie Mae Rowlls Kilgore, age 95, of LaFayette passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018. She was a member of the Peoples Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, F.W. Rowlls and James Kilgore; sons, William Rowlls and Jimmy Rowlls; daughters, Brenda Smalley and Susan Blevins; granddaughter, Tina Blevins; one brother; and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Evalene (Norman) Wallin and Mildred Rowlls both of LaFayette; son-in-law, Charles Blevins; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the LaFayette City Cemetery with Brother Bradley Battles officiating.

Pallbearers are grandsons.

Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Diane Cook Barker, age 70, of LaFayette passed away Friday, March 09, 2018. She was owner and operator of  Diane’s Quik Stop in Naomi until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Barker; son, Brian Barker; and brothers, Terry, Bill, Dick, Bob, Pete, and Ronnie Cook.

She is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Mark) White; grandchildren, Erin White, Bryson White, and Jasmine Barker; great granddaughter, Paislee White; sisters, Ann Shipp and Betty Wilson; brothers,  Danny Cook and Ricky Cook.

Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randy Avans officiating.

Family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until hour of service.

Marilyn June Bumgarner, age 64, of Chickamauga (formerly of Summerville) passed away Friday, March 9, 2018.  She retired from Lyerly Elementary where she taught special needs children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Mack Bumgarner; parents, Curtis Glass and Vivian Wilson Glass; brother, Roger W. Glass; and grandparents, Roy Wilson and Maybell Wilson.

She is survived by her daughters, Tara (John) Epperson of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Starr (Jeff) Carter of Cleveland, Tenn.; son, Jonathan Bumgarner (Marcia Stafford) of Chatsworth, Ga.; grandchildren, Amelia Bumgarner, Brylee Thrasher, Jill Carter, Kyle Carter, Ryan Carter, Bradlee Carter, and Baylee Carter; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Adam Warren officiating.

Pallbearers are Jonathan Bumgarner, Kevin Whaley, Shane Houge, Jeff Carter, John Epperson, Kyle Carter, and Kevin Gordy.

Visitation will be held Monday from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rayford “Leon” Kirby, age 76, of LaFayette passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 11, 2018 after battling cancer. He was known as a very sweet man, a good dad, and a loving husband.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Kirby; children, Wanda of Rock Spring, Jackie (Angela) of Rossville, Rickie (Tina) of Calhoun, Phyllis (Charles) of LaFayette, Kim (Jason) of Nashville, Tenn., Carolyn and Daniel both of LaFayette, Tina, Junior, Tammy, and Pamala K. all of Alabama; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brother, Tad Kirby; sister, Alice Miolen; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tom May officiating.

Interment will follow in High Point Cemetery.

 Melvina Harris Carrington, age 82, of LaFayette passed away Friday, March 16, 2018. She retired from E.T. Barwick Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James David Carrington Jr.; son, James David Carrington III; daughter, Charlotte J. Carrillo; sister, Betty Jean Parker; and brother, Leroy Harris.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Paul) Williams of Bridgeport, Ala.; grandchildren, Brian Greene, Kimberly Hood (Shaun), Kallie Johnson, and Julie Gass; sisters, Frances Brooks of LaFayette and Frankie Parker of Milledgeville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018 in Naomi Cemetery with Pastor William Harris officiating.

 John Paul Scoggins, age 90, of LaFayette passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018. He was born August 31, 1927 in Summerville, Georgia to the late Samuel Paul Scoggins and Avie Leo Pinion Scoggins. He was a member of the LaFayette First United Methodist Church.  John Paul proudly served his country in the Army in the South Pacific in World War II. He retired from Barwick Mills, Caron Spinning, and the Walker County School System. 

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Hazel Pettyjohn Scoggins; son, Dr. Ted (Joy) Scoggins; daughter, Gwen (Chuck) Gregory all of LaFayette; grandchildren, Ryan (Julie) Scoggins, Ben (Emily) Scoggins, Emily (Aaron) Varnell, Daniel (Carrie) Scoggins, and Matt (Jessica) Gregory; great grandchildren, Caroline, Anna Claire, Hazel, Susanna, Teddy, Tate, Cora, Katelyn, and David.

Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the LaFayette First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Autry and Rev. Randall Massengill officiating.

Interment will follow in LaFayette Memory Gardens.

 Rev. Fred Greene, age 79, of LaFayette passed away Monday, March 19, 2018. He began his work in Ministry in 1969 and was one of the founders of Old Way Baptist Church where he began pastoring in 1974. Throughout his ministry he pastored many churches in the area. He was a member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church in Summerville and retired from Walker County Transit with 11 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Greene; parents, Henry Greene and Lucy Borden Greene; grandson, Jeremy Greene; great granddaughter, Makenzie Grace Allmond; two brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Etta Woody Greene; sons, Jeff (Kecia) Greene, Roger (Denise) Greene, and Steve Greene all of LaFayette; grandchildren, Jennifer Browning, Valerie Kelley, Caleb Greene, Austin Greene, and Clay Haney; great grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Adams, Lindsey Browning, Amylia Grace, Jackson, Ava, and Canaan Kelley; sisters, Ann Brown of Cloudland, Ga., Margaret Mann of LaFayette, Judy (Harold) Brock of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dorothy Greene Huskey of Alcoa, Tenn.; brothers, Charles Greene of LaFayette and Jim Greene of Madisonville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, David and Edna Wilkerson and Audrey Harbin.

Eva Deauana Huggins Fitzpatrick, 82 of the West Armuchee Community passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at Hospice of Chattanooga. She was born on February 23, 1936 in LaFayette, GA. She was a loving wife and a great mother to her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Bobby Joe Fitzpatrick; great grandson, Jaxson Kennedy, parents Cecil Franklin Huggins, Vera Huggins and Delta Huggins; brothers Troy and Waymond (Sonny) Huggins, sisters Orene Bowman and Wilma Neal; sister-in-law, Annette Huggins, brothers-in-law Ed Bowman, Windom Neal, Herschel Davis and Joe McClure.

She is survived by her children: Angela (Ricky) Stack, Troy (Susan) Fitzpatrick and Leslie Cole. Grandchildren: Tricia Cothron, Mary Greenway, Coy Moody, Aaron Stack, Zach Varnell, Joey Varnell, Thomas Fitzpatrick, and Anna Fitzpatrick. Surviving siblings include Lebron (Myra) Huggins, Smyrna, TN, Joel (Barbara) Huggins, Jerry (Carolyn) Huggins, Glenda Davis of the West Armuchee Community and Katherine McClure of LaFayette. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, a 1955 graduate of LaFayette High School and worked at Best Mfg. before making the choice to become a stay-at-home mother.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm-4:00pm, Thursday, March 22 at Pleasant Hill UMC (4686 W. Armuchee Rd.) with the funeral service following visitation. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Chris Mullis and the Rev. Skip Mitchell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are: Zach Varnell, Marty Huggins, Randy Huggins, Brian Neal, Aaron Stack and A.J. Cothron. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund or to the charity of your choice.

Everette Lee Bradley, age 87, of LaFayette passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Nichols Bradley; daughter, Theresa Bradley; son, Joseph Bradley; and parents, Jewell Bradley and Dollie Denny Bradley.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Terry) Templeton; brother, Lonnie Bradley all of LaFayette; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Mattie Lou Howard, age 96, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018. Mattie was one of the Charter members of the Harrisburg Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Howard; parents, Oscar and Alma McRae; and 10 siblings.

She is survived by her son and wife, Gary and Teresa Howard of Hixson, Tenn., daughter and husband, Shirley and Charles Wardlaw of LaFayette, four grandchildren, Dax (Amanda) Howard and Dirk Howard of Lakesite, Tenn., Delona Wardlaw and Karen (Donnie King) Wardlaw of Atlanta; and sister, Sue Sosebee of LaFayette.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Harrisburg Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Pam Frye officiating.

Interment will follow in LaFayette Memory Gardens.

 David Lee Mitchell, age 42, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Banks; grandfathers, Ellard Mitchell and Cecil Brown; and stepmother, Faye White Mitchell.

He is survived by his sons, Dillon Mitchell and Ryver Mitchell of LaFayette; father, Freddie Mitchell; stepfather, Terry Banks; grandparents, Mildred Mitchell and Louise Brown; brothers, Eugene (April) Mitchell of Rock Spring, Stevie (Beth) Beason and Frankie Beason of LaFayette; sister, Kathy Ellinger Davis of Alabama; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wayne Ronald Brown, age 73, of LaFayette passed away Friday, March 23, 2018. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Wayne retired from Mount Vernon Mills with 33 years of service and worked part time for George and Dale at Wilson’s Service Station for 44 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurston Lee Brown and Eunice Lucille Ray Brown; and sister, Wanda Stephenson.

He is survived by his daughters, Pam (Ken) Wallin of Rossville and Glenda Brown of Alto, Ga.; son, Gene Brown of LaFayette; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jo (Cecil) Brannon of High Point, Ga., Janice McKenzie  and Irene Ball both of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held 5 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 in LaFayette Memory Gardens with Dale Wilson officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Monday from 12 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Mary Frances Long Harris, age 85, of LaFayette passed away Monday, March 26, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Junior Harris; sons, Charles Lee Hampton and Wesley Steve Harris; parents, Raymond Paul Long Sr., and Rosa Mitchell Long; sister, Pauline Wallin; brothers, Billy Long, Jerry Long and Raymond “Pappy” Long.

She is survived by her children, Richard Allen Hampton, Terry Rex Hampton, David Ray Hampton, and Tina Lynn Harris; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Vicky Wallace; brother, Wayne Long; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 in LaFayette Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers are Matthew Hampton, Benjamin Hampton, Christopher Hampton, Dameon Barfield, Shane Harris, and Andre Clemons.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

The family has requested no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association North Georgia Regional Office 922 East Morris Street Dalton, GA 30721.

James Russell Guffey, age 55, of Chickamauga passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

He is survived by his sister, Judy Fay (Sterling Leming) Cothren of Chickamauga; brothers, Gene (Debbie) Guffey of LaFayette and Randy Allen Guffey of Chickamauga; and several nieces and nephews.
